Invisalign An Overview
Invisible braces are an excellent treatment option for adult and teen patients who need mild to moderate orthodontic treatment. Adults can avoid the stigma of having metal braces while teens can avoid the embarrassment. Dr. Cappy Sinclair and Dr. Mark Reichley help patients gently reposition their teeth and straighten their smiles. Invisalign is used to treat a variety of orthodontic concerns including:
- Crooked teeth
- Gaps between teeth
Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, thanks to a special, ultra thin plastic material. Invisalign aligners are also highly flexible, making them more comfortable than other systems and the fact that they are removable is a significant benefit for most patients considering treatment. Invisalign will gently reposition the teeth without causing damage to tooth enamel, gum tissue, or TMJ.
Benefits of Invisalign
Invisalign is virtually invisible, almost no-one will be able to tell you are wearing clear braces. In addition to the esthetic and comfort advantages, Invisalign offers a number of significant clinical benefits including:
- Improved gum and tooth health during treatment because of better oral hygiene
- No metal allergies due to brackets and wires
- More predictable treatment planning with Invisalign® software
- Custom aligners tailored to fit your teeth precisely, for reduced irritation and fewer scratches
"Coastal stands head and shoulders above the rest in an area possessed of offices with a dearth of progressive approaches. They have a modern environment and friendly welcoming team. It is one of the very few offices in Hampton Roads I recommend as a dentist myself."Raymond E.

"I have been suffering through multiple problems with my teeth for many years and my past dentists seemed to just mask the issues by giving temporary fixes only to have the problems keep coming back. Invisalign What to Expect
Traditional braces have been the conventional treatment but there are many disadvantages to using them when compared to Invisalign. According to research, clear braces may be better for your dental hygiene during treatment compared to traditional metal braces. Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can brush and floss teeth normally. By contrast, traditional metal braces can be difficult to care for and often trap food particles between the braces and teeth. Removable aligners make it possible for you to enjoy the food and drink you like without special restriction.
The Invisalign Process
3-D images of your teeth and jaw will be taken. This will allow Dr. Sinclair or Dr. Reichley to create a digital model of your mouth. This model allows the Invisalign Lab to create your clear aligners and also allows us to show you a 3-D image of what your future smile will look like!
Once ready, you will receive your first set of aligners that will begin to slowly reposition your teeth. The aligners are made of a soft-hard clear plastic that are durable and transparent. They will need to be replaced with a new set about every two weeks to gradually shift your teeth and jaw into placement.
Your clear braces should be worn for 20-22 hours a day. This allows you to remove them to eat and continue a normal oral hygiene routine. The length of your treatment and the number of aligners you will require will depend on the severity of your dental concerns and your cosmetic goals. Most patients will complete treatment in 6 – 12 months.
