The Dental Implant Process at Our Dental Office

2. Placement of the Implant Post
The next step is the surgical phase. Working from the treatment plan, an oral surgeon or periodontist will perform the implant surgery. He will place the implant post or fixture into your jawbone. The implant post will serve as the root for the new prosthetic tooth.
Strategic planning is crucial to the long-term success and comfort of the final restoration. That’s why we are very selective about which oral surgeon we partner with for this procedure.
After the implant placement surgery, we will give your mouth time to heal. Healing usually takes about 3 to 6 months. During this time, we may place a temporary crown or bridge to support healing. It will also serve functional and cosmetic purposes because we still want you to be able to use your mouth.
We will also create the dental prosthetic that will replace your teeth. If we are replacing a single tooth, we will create a lifelike dental crown. We will create an implant-supported denture, hybrid denture, over-bridge, or an implant-supported bridge to replace many teeth.
3. Placement of the Implant Restoration or Dental Prosthetic
The last step is placing the final restoration or dental prosthetic. Once your mouth heals over the implant post, Dr. Sinclair or Dr. Reichley will uncover it and finalize the treatment. Our dentists will first make sure that the jawbone has properly fused with the implant post.
Then, Dr. Sinclair or Dr. Reichley will permanently secure your final restoration to the implant post using an abutment. The abutment is what holds the prosthetic to the implant.
After the restoration is complete, our dentists will examine the implant site to make sure everything looks good. We will give you post-op care instructions before you leave our office.
