protecting her teethProtecting your child’s oral health is important. That’s why you should start teaching good dental hygiene and oral habits early. Forming good habits now will last well into their adult life.

Most children begin teething around six months. Generally, a baby’s four front teeth come through the gums at about six months, although some children don’t have their first tooth until twelve to fourteen months. Most children get all of their baby teeth by the age of three. Dr. Sinclair recommends that you schedule the first appointment when they turn one or when the first tooth appears. Starting early reduces the likelihood of developing complex dental concerns such as:

  • Gum Disease
  • Cavities
  • Tooth Decay

Be sure to make routine dental checkups for you and your family members. This will help to protect you and your child’s oral and overall health.

Pediatric Routine Checkup

Most pediatric dental checkups are designed to identify your child’s dental problems while formally educating them on the importance of excellent oral health. A great dentist will make sure your child receives the treatment they need as well as help them understand all aspects of their care.  Your child’s first routine checkup will include:

  • Teeth cleaning
  • Diagnostic x-rays (as needed)
  • Charting of teeth and existing tooth conditions
  • Dental caries (cavities) screening
  • Evaluation of the gums
  • Examination of the temporomandibular joints (TMJ) and jaw position
  • Educating Parents for Pediatric Dentistry
