Dr. Cappy Sinclair of Coastal Cosmetic Dentistry participated in the February 2011 American Dental Association’s Give Kids A Smile Day. Dr. Sinclair, along with ten other Tidewater Dental Association dentists provided over $13,000 worth of dentistry to children in Hampton Roads. Assisted by Old Dominion University faculty and dental hygiene students, the team completed 89 dental examinations, 181 dental sealants and 177 dental X-rays.
Each year on the first Friday in February, thousands of the nation’s dentists and their dental team members provide free oral health care services to children from low-income families across the country. The ADA’s Give Kids A Smile® (GKAS) program enhances the oral health of large numbers of needy children. GKAS activities also highlight for policy makers the ongoing challenges that disadvantaged families face in finding dental care.
The Give Kids A Smile Day events help to raise awareness for pediatric dentistry. Unfortunately, tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease in America, costing parents hundreds of dollars in dental care and causing students to miss valuable time from school. The best way to prevent cavities and tooth decay in children is through regular visits to the dentist and routine dental cleanings.
